Pre-requisites

This guide has been written for RecordPoint version 3.8 and greater. SocialConnect is provided as part of the your RecordPoint core licensing agreement. To configure SocialConnect for Facebook, you will need:

  • A user account that is a member of the ‘Record Administrator’ security group in RecordPoint.
  • The account and password details for your organisation’s Facebook account.

Aggregation level

SocialConnect is able to aggregate Tweets in the same way as any other record. You can choose between two aggregation options:

  • Post. RecordPoint will store single Wall Posts, their replies and attachments (subject to the configuration of the ‘Wall Update Types’ setting, below) within a File.
  • Wall. RecordPoint will store all Facebook content within a single File for the wall.

To successfully configure SocialConnect for Facebook, you will need to choose the required aggregation level. Please make this decision before proceeding.

Wall Update Types

Using the ‘Wall Update Types’ setting, you can adjust the level of conversation for which RecordPoint will submit records. There are three options to choose from:

  • Submit all Posts. This will capture all Posts made on the Facebook Wall.
  • Submit all Posts and Replies. This will capture all Posts made on the Facebook Wall as well as any replies sent/received.
  • Submit all Posts, Replies and Entries. This is the most comprehensive option, capturing all content associated with a Post including attachments.

To successfully configure SocialConnect for Facebook, you will need to choose the required Wall Update Type. Please make this decision before proceeding.

Poll Interval

The poll interval is the duration between RecordPoint’s connection to the Facebook service where it is able to detect and submit new posts. This is an important setting to get right and will depend upon the compliance requirements that your organisation has. Set the poll interval to be too long and you could potential lose posts (as there is time to delete them before RecordPoint has captured them).
