Pre-requisites

This guide has been written for RecordPoint version 3.9 and greater. SocialConnect is provided as part of the your RecordPoint core licensing agreement. To configure SocialConnect for Twitter, you will need:

  • A user account that is a member of the ‘Record Administrator’ security group in RecordPoint.
  • The account and password details for your organisation’s Twitter account.

Aggregation level

SocialConnect is able to aggregate Tweets in the same way as any other record. You can choose between two aggregation options:

  • Tweet. RecordPoint will store single Tweets, their replies and attachments (subject to the configuration of the ‘Tweet Types’ setting, below) within a File.
  • Account. RecordPoint will store all Twitter content within a single File for the account.

To successfully configure SocialConnect for Twitter, you will need to choose the required aggregation level. Please make this decision before proceeding.

Tweet Types

Using the ‘Tweet Types’ setting, you can adjust the level of conversation for which RecordPoint will submit records. There are three options to choose from:

  • Submit all Tweets. This will capture all Tweets made from the Twitter
  • Submit all Tweets and Replies. This will capture all Tweets made from the Twitter account as well as any replies sent/received.
  • Submit all Tweets, Replies and Attachments. This is the most comprehensive option, capturing all content associated with a Tweet.

To successfully configure SocialConnect for Twitter, you will need to choose the required Tweet types. Please make this decision before proceeding.

Submission Rules

It is possible to configure the granularity with which RecordPoint will capture Tweets from the Twitter account. There are three options to choose from, but remember that the types of conversation captured will depend upon the setting in ‘Tweet Types’ detailed above:

  • Submit all Tweets. This will capture all Tweets made from the Twitter account.
  • Submit Tweets with these #tags. This will only capture Tweets with the specified #tag(s).
  • Submit Tweets with these @mentions. This will only capture Tweets with specified @mention(s).

It is possible to create a number of different submission rules. For example you might choose the following approach:

  • Submit Tweets with these #tags: #RecordPoint’sAwesome
  • Submit Tweets with these @mentions: @recordpoint

You also have the option to further filter the submissions based upon whether the Tweets have had an attachment added. This is configurable on each separate submission rule.

Poll Interval

The poll interval is the duration between RecordPoint’s connection to the Twitter service where it is able to detect and submit new Tweets. This is an important setting to get right and will depend upon the compliance requirements that your organisation has. Set the poll interval to be too long and you could potential lose tweets (as there is time to delete them before RecordPoint has captured them)
